On October 16th, First Church will welcome Rev. Dr. Javier Viera, President and Professor of Education and Leadership at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary to preach for Bible Sunday.
On the Sunday our third graders receive their Bibles, a rite of passage for the children, it is fitting that the head of Garrett, a highly respected institution of theological education, will preach. President Viera, described as “an experienced institutional leader in theological education, as a pastor, teacher, and scholar [who has] dedicated much of his professional life to building bridges and fostering understanding across religious difference, fighting for racial justice and equity, and has been a fierce advocate for a fully inclusive church.”
