First Church Evanston was one of 43 congregations awarded a “Mission Links Church” designation at the 2022 Northern Illinois Annual Conference. The Mission Links program enables churches to “live out the beatitudes and be a blessing for projects around the block and around the world.” Churches achieve this status by contributing 100% of their apportionments and supporting project in each of the 7 giving areas.
These areas and the specific contributions made by First Church include:
- Special Sundays: Donation to United Voices for Children
- Global Advance Projects: Donation to Living Well with AIDS
- Missionary Support: Financial support for Helen Robert Evans
- UMCOR/Emergency Relief Projects: Donation of money and hygiene kits to UMCOR
- U.S.-Based Advances: Donations to the African American Methodist Heritage Center, Caretakers of God’s Creation, Tree of Life Lakota Reservation, United Methodist Volunteers in Mission
- NIC Conference Projects: Donations to University Christian Ministries (NU) and Reconciling Ministries
- NIC District Projects: Donation of money and meals to The Night Ministry
The Mission & Outreach Committee intends to maintain First Church’s status as a Mission Links church by supporting ministries locally and globally.
