Each summer 50-70 high school youth and adults from our congregation participate in the annual ASP mission trip, a week of home renovation and repair with the Appalachian Service Project. While physically exhausting, the week is highly meaningful in putting our faith into action. Several of our youth have called it “the best week of the year.”
Following the example set by our youth, First Church adults regularly participate in mission trips as well. For more than a decade, groups of 10-20 First Church Adults have traveled to Appalachia in the spring to participate in ASP and its goal to help make homes safer, warmer, and more livable. Fall mission trips have focused on projects in urban neighborhoods that can also benefit from similar rebuilding and repair activities.
