On February 13, members of our Inquirers Class plus two church members and a couple other church friends gathered to prepare supper for the Thursday Soup Kitchen and to serve the meal in the church dining room. It was a fun project to take on, provided an opportunity to chat informally, and gave us an up-close look at First Church’s biggest longtime ministries.
The menu included Meatball Pasta Bake, roasted carrots, homemade garlic bread, a fresh green salad, and pound cake, and we also made sack lunches for the guests to take with them. We fed 71 persons, many of whom asked for seconds. The only leftover food? Carrots. Go figure.
Seventeen persons are participating in the Inquirers Class this winter. Two goals of the Inquirers Class process include (1) fostering connection and community; and (2) learning about opportunities to “grow in our relationship with God” and “live our faith in the world.” This Saturday Inquirers and friends will be packing diapers for Bundled Blessings and making sack lunches for hungry persons in the community. Other Inquirers will cook and serve for the March 20 Soup Kitchen.
