On Tuesdays beginning January 2nd, you are invited to a thirty-minute Night Prayer Service to end your day in community and peace. These services from 8:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., available online via Zoom, are patterned after the ancient monastic tradition of Compline (meaning completion)–the final prayer of the day. This service follows a simple liturgical format that offers quietness and reflection before rest.
“Hygge for the soul” is how one woman describes Compline. Another participant shared that the prayer service reminded him of putting his young daughters to sleep: “It’s like God puts me to rest after a long day.” The Faith Formation Council first offered Compline in January 2022 and continued through Lent based on the positive response by participants. Compline was again offered January through Lent in 2023. And now it returns again, running from January 2 through Lent, concluding on March 19.
The Night Prayer services are offered by the Faith Formation Council. Participants may attend as their schedules allow. Persons of all ages are encouraged to give this spiritual practice a try. The online format invites participation from anywhere, and we are enriched when family & friends in many locations join in.
