First United Methodist Church is a community of Christians inviting all persons to grow in their relationship with God and to live their faith in the world.
The journey of faith is not a solo trip. By yourself you can get stuck, run out of gas, take a wrong turn, find yourself in a dangerous place late at night, fall asleep at the wheel. With community, it becomes a road trip with friends who keep you alert with banter and stories, share the cost of tolls and snacks, help you navigate and stay away from wrong turns.
Covenant groups are metaphorical road trips with companions who become friends. They are small groups that share the journey of faith for a period of time; they meet on a regular basis to check in, listen to each other’s joys and concerns, and pray together. Covenant groups emphasize the matter of the heart over matters of the mind.
In a congregation our size, we need especially need small groups — travelling companions that support us as we “grow in our relationship with God” and “live our faith in the world.”
The Faith Formation Council hopes to expand opportunities to participate in small covenant groups, and seeks input from the congregation. Please take 3-4 minutes to respond to this online survey.
