Ever had doubts? If you are like most\, you have. Ever had doubts about Christian faith? Many of us have. In a recent study at a leading United Methodist Church\, 95 percent of believers stated they struggle with doubt occasionally and 24 percent stated they struggle with doubt regularly. In the 1970s\, Father Thomas Keating developed a form of contemplative practice called centering prayer; and John Main\, a Benedictine monk\, advocated a practice of contemplative meditation. \nWe will be utilizing the small group format for contemplative practice outlined in the book “Where Two or Three Are Gathered” by Rev. Daniel Prechtel with an emphasis on lectio (reading)\, meditatio (meditation)\, oratio (prayer)\, and contemplatio (contemplation). \nThe contemplative practice group will meet on Mondays\, December 1st – December 22nd during Advent from 10:30am-11:30am on Zoom and will be facilitated by Glynis Doyle. \nIf you have any questions\, would like to receive an outline of the format of the class\, or would like to register\, you can contact Glynis at dleedoyle@gmail.com.

DESCRIPTION:The Earth Care Committee holds its monthly Styrofoam collection time at First UMC Evanston on the third Saturday of the month at the Church Street entrance between 10am and Noon. Material to be collected includes all clean No. 6 plastic foam. Acceptable items include disposable coffee cups; take out containers (such as clamshells); plastic plates\, bowls and cutlery; meat and poultry foam trays and packing foam. When recycled\, these items can be processed into a material used to make park benches\, picture frames\, and other items. Recycling these items helps keep this harmful plastic\, which cannot be processed locally\, out of the waste stream.
