DESCRIPTION:Wesleyan Vile-tality\n\nSJI launches a four-week study of FUMC’s One Church/One Book\, “Wesleyan Vile-tality: Reclaiming the Heart of Methodist Identity.” It was written by Dr. Ashley Boggan\, who led SJI and preached here last Fall. Boggan argues that the early Methodists\, following the lead of John and Charles Wesley\, were considered vile. They were “rule-benders\, rabble-rousers\, and outcast-embracers.” Somewhere along the way\, Methodists chose to become respectable. Boggan calls us to return to our original vile-tality as we address racism\, sexism\, heterosexism\, and colonialism. DESCRIPTION:The Covenant Hike Group invites all who have a wonder of the natural world to share nature immersion with each other through 3 seasons while experiencing the presence of God. The format is simple. We begin with a brief reading (scripture or poem)\, hike along while sharing joys and concerns\, and appreciate 5 minutes of silence at mid-point. Each hike concludes with an optional\, brief time of sharing about our experiences on the hike\, closing prayer\, and a cool or hot drink. DESCRIPTION:Welcome Back Worship in the Park!\n\nThis summer we will be returning to Lunt Park for the 9am outdoor worship service. You can expect the same 45 minute\, laid-back\, child-inclusive worship service under the trees and in the summer breeze that we have held for decades. However\, we’ll be pairing down some of the items we bring out to the park in order to make this an easy lift for our volunteers and staff. We will provide a handful of chairs for visitors\, but we ask that you bring your own chair or blanket to sit on. There will also be a small amount of song books available because we are hoping that you’ll share with your neighbor or use the digital bulletin with music provided. DESCRIPTION:The Earth Care Committee holds its monthly Styrofoam collection time at First UMC Evanston on the third Saturday of the month at the Church Street entrance between 10am and Noon. Material to be collected includes all clean No. 6 plastic foam. Acceptable items include disposable coffee cups; take out containers (such as clamshells); plastic plates\, bowls and cutlery; meat and poultry foam trays and packing foam. When recycled\, these items can be processed into a material used to make park benches\, picture frames\, and other items. Recycling these items helps keep this harmful plastic\, which cannot be processed locally\, out of the waste stream.
