DESCRIPTION:First Church’s Mission and Outreach team is again partnering with Habitat of Lake County to help build new houses in Waukegan on Saturday\, Nov. 19. Join an adult team of up to 12 people to continue First Church’s tradition of missional outreach. Habitat of Lake County builds affordable homes with financing options to purchase if potential owners participate in the build. \nThe exact nature of our work is yet to be determined\, but generally a range of basic skills and a willingness to work is all that is required. Habitat of Lake County does not require a registration fee so each person can make a voluntary contribution to Habitat if they are able. We will meet in the church parking lot at 7:00 a.m. to share rides to the work site. DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to celebrate the 100th year of ministry of our Evanston partner Sherman United Methodist Church by sharing our building for the Sherman UMC Fisk University Choir Concert.  This annual concert takes place on Friday\, October 21 at 7 pm in the First Church sanctuary. \n\n\n\nLocated in Nashville\, Fisk University is a historically black university in Nashville\, TN. Each October our Sherman UMC neighbors host this concert which raises funds for scholarships for Fisk University students and the ministries of Sherman UMC.  The event has grown significantly over the years\, “always paying homage to the original Fisk Jubilee Singers’ introduction of spirituals to the world\, this choir’s repertoire encompasses the full range of African American sacred music.” \n\n\n\nLearn more about this event and purchase tickets online.\n\nThe Social Justice Committee seeks volunteers for this event.  Please contact Tom Butler at theo1033@comcast.net .
